Intensive English Program
Mission
The Center for Multilingual Multicultural Studies (CMMS) provides high quality English language programs for international students and professionals, offers services that enhance research and instruction in language learning, and coordinates cultural programs that contribute to multicultural awareness and education at a global scale.
Curriculum Overview
The courses in the Intensive English Program provide the students with language skills needed to perform well in colleges and universities in the United States. English is offered at the beginning, intermediate, high intermediate, and advanced levels. Instruction is skills-based, and core courses include reading, writing, grammar, listening and speaking. Additional courses in TOEFL preparation, oral presentations, business English, and other English language skills are available. Students take a placement test at the beginning of each term. Once placed in the appropriate level, students are engaged in learning using a communicative approach. Students have many opportunities to practice the English language, and their instructors assess their proficiency through many effective means.
Program Overview
Learn English in one of the most popular places in the United States - Orlando, Florida. Orlando is located in the heart of Florida, close to all of the major tourist attractions and beaches. The Intensive English Program for international students is specially designed to prepare international students to enter universities and colleges in the United States. Students from over 70 countries have participated since its establishment in 1987. Many of these students have graduated from the University of Central Florida’s academic program and are now pursuing their careers with the ability to communicate in English. Three 14 week sessions of intensive English are offered at beginning, intermediate, high intermediate, and advanced levels. Students study for 23 hours per week, from Monday through Friday. Extra curricular activities are offered for the students enhance their English studies by giving them opportunities to practice the language. Students have access to a multimedia lab to complement their classroom instruction. Classes are limited to no more than 15 students to provide the best learning environment. The faculty members of CMMS are highly qualified. The majority hold a Masters Degree in the teaching of English as a Second Language and two hold doctorate degrees. Their many years of teaching experience provide students with high quality instruction. The Intensive English Program is housed at the University of Central Florida (UCF), a four-year, fully-accredited, coeducational university. It is a member of the State University System of Florida. UCF has more than 40,000 students in a sprawling, state-of-the-art campus on 1227 acres.
We also offer Accent Reduction Courses for international professionals.
